So I have been playing EQ again

Posted in Game Reviews on June 8th, 2008

Well I have been trying to get back into EQ. I have not had the best of luck. The first day went rather well. I was able to get a group with my war. During the early afternoon, I was about to get in a group with my ranger. I found myself after I got back from eating, with not being able to get a group.

Now, EQ is a game to where you almost have to have a group to do any type of progression in the game. At lower levels you are ok, but will soon find yourself needing a group. Most people in the game raid now I think. Everyone either has friends already or is not looking to get in a group because they run a solo class.

I how ever will continue to try to play the game. If things keep going well the I might sign back up again. As of right now I do not see the game being worth the $15/month it takes to play the game. Heck, I started playing Cobal after a few hours of EQ and not being able to find a group. After you die a few times and have to do corpse runs, well you just get tired of playing.

I still feel that the interface of EQ is unmatched.

EverQuest - Is it time for the addiction again?

Well SOE is giving away 1.5 months of play time on EQ. All accounts have been reactivated, that are in good standings. It is a good thing mine is in good standings.

So I downloaded the patcher and installed the game last night. It is weird going back to a game after not playing it for some time. But I’m going to give it a shot until July 25th, that is when the promotion ends.

So I logged in and got to work. I headed over to PoI to test my skills out as a ranger and to see if I still had what it took. At lvl 71, the mobs in PoI don’t give you much XP, if any at all. It is a Planes of Power zone though, so they are still tough. I figured that I could just solo some mobs, and I was right.

After almost dieing, due to an add, I started chatting in the general chat. Someone needed a war in Nadox. I decided that I would take my warrior down there and group some. I got down there and I didn’t really have anything set up. So it took me some time to get a few hot keys ready to go. Then I was off pulling. the group went good, but I needed to get to bed.

Now, I don’t know if I’m going to pay to play or not. I have really not considered going back and playing EQ again. Further more I swore that SOE would not get any more of my money. If I look at the reason for that, it really was my fault for not making sure that the account was canceled like I thought that I had done. They wouldn’t refund $30 to me, so I was pissed at them.

At any rate, I have thought about it. They are giving me almost 2 months to think about it, so I feel that I should take them up on their offer. There really is nothing like the interface of EQ. No game system to date has matched the functionality of it, not even EQ2.

Saints Row

Saints Row is a game much like GTA3. There are some different aspects of the game that make it interesting. Now I have only completed about 14% of the game, but I really wanted to let you know what I thought about it so far.

First lets start with the respect meter. This took me a little bit to get used to. To progress in the game you have to have respect. You can gain respect though different manners. One is where you rob a store at night and take the good out of th safe to a pawn shop. This event will get you 3 start right away. What is crazy about this is that you can load the goods into the trunk of the car and get to the pawn shop quickly. You will still have to deal with all of the cops along the way though.

Another one is where you are committing insurance fraud. This is where you will toss yourself in front of moving traffic or cause a head on auto accident. The better the fall and more cars involved the more money you make.

The last one i will tell you about is mayhem. This by far is one of the funnest to me. You just get respect from killing and blowing up things. You will receive bonus points for using different weapons depending on the mission. I used to do this in GTA, but it is apart of this game.

Now that you have some respect you can do some missions for your gang. You are in the gang Saints Row. Your color is purple, and you are a bad ass. You will go on missions that are set to wipe out the other gangs. At the same time the other gangs are trying to reclaim the territory that you took from them.

Some of the missions that I have done so far involve blowing up a recording studio, while the other charged me with killing everyone in a brothel. That is just tipping the iceberg. There are many different missions.

The player creation screen has a lot to it. You can shape the eyeballs, increase the slant of the eyes, you are even able to position the ears on the head. With many different things to choose from you may be creating your character for hours. I think that it took me about 30 minutes.

I’m going to have to put this game on my must have list, seeing as I rented the game and will have to return it. Over all I will have to give Saints Row 4 out of 5. They get discounted for not doing a better job with mouth movement during the mission movies and for not having an original idea the game. They do how ever do great work with the idea of the game. This game was also played on the xbox 360.

This game is also rated M for blood and gore, intense violence, partial nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, and use of drugs and alcohol.
