My G1 is dying. The batter is fading and seems to be doing it a lot quicker these days. Who is to blame? I’m blaming a friend of mine for going into the hospital of course.
The day my friend went in was the day that my phone over heated. This was also the same day that I closed on my house. I just really want to blame my friend, so that is what I’m going to do. It is his fault that my phone has issues now.
On the way to visit my friend in the hospital, who just happened to be 2 hours away. I thought that it would be a good idea to run Pandora and Navigation at the same time. Screen at full power as well. It was great. The entire trip was filled with maps and music. Nothing could have been better.
Then it happened. The phone died. What?! Yep just dead. I couldn’t get it to work with the car charger or anything. I niticed that the phone was hot, really hot. Could it have been the car charger? It has the pink-ish purple-ish glow of the T-Mobile logo on the charger. Couldn’t have been that.
My theory is that while running the screen at full light, Pandora, and Navigation that I was over using the phone. The car charger was plugged in the entire 2 hours as well. So the heat from charging though a car charger and the heat from just abusing the phone is really what caused my issue.
I was able to get the phone back up and running hours later. Plugged it into the car charger on the way from the hospital and it worked. Just needed to cool down. That was the beginning of the end for the G1.
Now when I’m driving to work, about 45 minutes, the phone is at 45% when I arrive. I do not think that this is a good thing. The battery stats on the phone say that it is in good health. I’m tossing out the bullshit card on this one. Though I do run CyanogenMod 2.1 and i will be moving to 2.2 I’m not convenced that this is the issues because it happened on CyanogenMod 1.6 as well and not on 1.6 before the over heating.
I have had the G1 for about 2 years now. I know that is it not the latest phone out there. How ever it is still the bee’s knees when it comes to phones for me. Why? For starters it runs Linux. Google’s version, but still an open platform. Second is the 5 row keyboard. I have yet to see another device that will give me a 5 row QWERTY keyboard. I love it. those are just the top reasons.
What I would like to see is another HTC phone with a 5 row keyboard. 1+ GHz proc snapdragon or hummingbird. A phone that will play Pandora, do Navigation, and accept voice commands at the same time. I know that is not asking for much. You almost perfected it with the G1. I need a G1+ phone please T-Mobile. Thank you.
PS: I still love my G1 I’m just going to have to buy another battery for it.
I am pretty sure the Driod Incrediable meets all of those needs. However $199 is a lot more money then a new battery. Oh and of course that would also mean changing to Verzion.
$200 is not bad. They make you sign a contract and you get a price break on the phone. I’m also just going to wait and see what T-Mobile has to offer toward the end of this year. I love the 5 row QWERTY, but I could give it up for a 4 row QWERTY if I can get a 1GHz proc. 100% touch is not for me. I like seeing my full screen while in a terminal session.
It took me awhile to get used to a full touch screen phone. However I have had mine now for about 6 months I think. I would love to move from my Behold up to a jailbroken iPhone 3Gs or a Driod X or a Driod Incrediable but I am still under contract for awhile. I really would love to go to Verzion and get the Driod cause they offer unlimited talk+txt+web at a great rate. But again that contract has me locked in with T-Mobile for a good while still.
I don’t think that you understand. It is not the fact that I can’t use a full touch screen. I like the touch screen, and “IF” I wasn’t doing work on the phone, I wouldn’t really care if I had a touch screen or not. Maybe I should carry around a netbook with me for those times that I need a full screen.
I don’t like the keyboard being translucent while I’m trying to read a log file from a server that is located in another country. It is not my idea of a productive time, and I don’t much care for the eye strain.
Verizon’s Unlimited plan might be a thing of the past. They are looking at make toast out of it like AT&T did with theirs when the iPad came out. The carriers can’t handle the demand for data, so they are limiting it.
