Moondance 2009

So I went camping this past weekend and this is really the first that I have had to write about it. Well I guess there have been other times but I have just been tired or busy, so you just had to wait.

Moondance this year was a blast, like the past years. this year was different though. I went out on a Wednesday night and not a Thursday afternoon. I also didn’t leave until Monday. Even though I didn’t make it out until about 8pm on Wednesday, it still felt like I had 2 extra days there.

Wednesday night we, Will and I, scoped out the camp site. There was a tree that was laying down across where I normally camp. We popped open the bottle of whiskey and sat around drinking with Wade, another friend of ours. After a few hours we all passed out in his camper.

8am Thursday: Will and I got out of bed and went to work on the camp site. We cleared the tree out of the way with hand saws. That is right, I had a 12″ bow saw and he had a 12″ wood saw. No power tools. We cleared the tree out of the way cutting it in half and then trimming off the branches. We moved the trunk of the tree, about 15 to 18 feet worth of tree, out of the way and dragged the top of the tree and limbs over to another area for further dismantling. We raked the sticks out of the way and unpacked the car.

10am Thursday: Camp was completely setup now. It took us about 2 hours to get the tree out of the way and camp setup. It was time for something to eat. Headed back to the camper for some coffee and to check to see if Wade was up yet.

The rest of the weekend was relaxing. We took care of gate duty on Thursday, so that was out of the way. When we were done with gate duty, Will’s wife showed up and we had to unpack her car. That didn’t take to long. Jason and Kurt arrived on Friday evening and we got their tents setup as well. We all enjoyed a bottle of home-made shine. It didn’t taste like shine though, so it was gone in a matter of minutes.

To Amber – your fire spinning was wonderful. Truly a fire Goddess.

That was the weekend. There are a ton of parts left out. I mean, do you really want to hear about how they have flushing toilets out there now? I didn’t think so. The drumming was good, as well as the stew that I make every year. It was a wonderful time. I can’t wait until next year.
