Final Impressions – Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
This weekend I finished up Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. It was, and still is a fun game. Like a friend of mine said, the game itself is short, and I do mean short. Not sure of the total game play time, but I would give it around 10 hours or less. The story is great, even though the game play is short.
Special Ops: These side missions are great. Give me an objective, create a standard of scoring, make it multi-player, and let me have at it. This was a great way to add more value to the game. I went though some of them with a friend of mine. Even though we had to go though some of them several times before we achieved the 3 star rating, it was great fun. I have done a few on my own and achieved 3 stars as well. Other Special Ops have a requirement to play multi-player. This is neither good nor bad, unless you do not have a connection to the Internet or do not have friends that will come over and game with you. Over all the Special Ops is a +1 in my book.
Online Multi-player: About the same as it was in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. There are a lot more customizable options now though. They even put in the ability to throw your knife and retrieve it. Which is a cool option, but you can still melee with a knife even if you have tossed yours at an opponent and lost it.
It has taken me a little bit of time to get used to the way the game moves online. There are many different way to take someone out. There are also many things that you can climb on, and different ways to get to a location. Some of them require jumping from building to building over an alley way. Very fun, and will keep you busy exploring the maps for a while to come.
The worst thing that I feel that they enforced on people in the online game play is that in some games, like Team Death Match, you are not allowed to be in a Microsoft Online Chat Party. This really bothers me. I personally do not mind facing Clans, and do not really want to have to be in a chat with my team. I understand that it is a team effort, but there are some real asshats that play. While in the waiting area, people will play music or just all around annoying. I have never muted as many people on XBox live as I have when I started playing the Call of Duty series. It looks like I’m going to start muting a bunch more. Infanity Ward, you need to let people use the features of their XBox, and if the want to play CoD in TDM while in a MOCP, you should let them and not restrict them. I don’t like asshats and I really do not like muting people. Personally I like to just start a MOCP just so my friends can join at any time, that way I don’t have to invite them when they get on, and you are killing this for me.
Over all I will give the game an 8. If it wasn’t for the blocking of MOCPs I would give the game a 9.5. It really is a good game with tons of new features. I look forward to playing this over the next year or more.

Steam seems to have followed Xbox Live on the ban band wagon. They banned 2500 PC gamers caught cheating on Modern Wrfare 2, and they say this is only the first round. http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/30/so-long-2500-modern-warfare-2-steam-cheaters/
I just started a playthrough, and got to the airport scene. I have to agree. It was beautifully done, without glorifying what was going on. Game designers can definitely take some cues from Infinity Ward, because I felt the exact way I believe they wanted you to feel. As soon as they opened fire, and you see the initial wave of civilians drop on the floor, my gut wrenched. And I’m someone who ENJOYS watching needless violence at times.
