So what about this $600
Technorati Tags: $600, refund, taxes, U.S. GovernmentI don’t know where the government gets off giving me back my taxes. I bitch about having to pay them and then they give me extra money back? That is strange.
We are in the middle of a war. A war that a lot of people would like that have stopped, it is unknown if this will happen with the next political election. The funding for the war has pushed the U.S. in to heavy debt. Not only can the people in the U.S. not pay its debts, but the country can’t even pay its debts.
Now, this $600. Where is it coming from. Banks in the U.S. are going bankrupt, the value of the dollar is at about 70%, maybe, and Bush is spending and spending. I just want to know, what government owns the freest nation in the world?
Will I be happy to get the $600? I sure will be. I would rather them keep their money though. I don’t see any reason if you are going to steel from people to give it back from them. I mean, what the hell did you take it for in the first place. As it sits right now, the $600 is about 5% or less what I paid in taxes last year. That is just what I paid out of my federal. I have state and all of the other SS and medicare still coming out of my check. We all know that SS is worthless, so it is free money to the government.
If I really didn’t want to spend the money to help pay off some credit cards I would send it back. I’m sure that I would have to fight my wife for sending it back as well. I must say that we don’t need it to get our debt down. It will help some, but not that much. It will not stimulate our spending habbits at all. I’m not going out and buying a $50/person dinner anytime soon, even if the government wants to give me $600.
This would be my letter:
Dear U.S. Government:
Please keep your damn money. You will not be able to buy me for $600. Not today, not tomorrow, not ever. If you really feel that $600 is going to change much in our economy then you are sadly mistaken.
I don’t know here a bunch of lying lawyers get off thinking that they know so much about marketing and how to build wealth. You surely are not taking advice form Sun Microsystems, or Microsoft.
So who is really telling you that cutting the taxes on the wealth, and making them richer, will help out anyone. I have personally been given 2% or 3% raises over the past few year. Inflation on what i have to spend money on has gone up about 3% to 5% or more each of those years. I now make less money than when I started working at my current job because inflation. Also, when I first started, I made less than I did at the job I had 1 year prior.
So as you can see, I’m a broke ass, hard working, tax paying, U.S. citizen so that you can fly around in your jets, and go on month long vacations.
KEEP YOUR FUCKING $600, I DON’T NEED IT! YOU WILL COUNT IT AS INCOME NEXT YEAR TAX TIME AND I WILL HAVE TO PAY TAXES ON IT AS WELL. SO GO FUCK YOUR SELF!
Truly your,
Mark Pipkin

I am glad to see you make a post on your opinion about our current status in this nation. I agree that we are giving away borrowed money with this refund. Most people will use the money to either pay off a credit debt or to buy an item which will have been made somewhere else. I think the best thing our country could do to help boost the ecomony would be to force big oil and automobile compines to look into other furl options. Other then that we need to drudge through this and stop giving away money we borrowed from China, Mexico, and Canada.

I can’t remember where I read it today but someone said that if his company would just give him a 5% raise then the would be happy. The reason that he stated that was that the tax breaks that Bush has given the wealthy are not trickling down hill.
If nothing trickles, then the econ will crash. It doesn’t matter if you have 100billion, you will run out of money of people are not buying your products.
Maybe fight club will happen. Maybe something else. I do know that Hillary, Obama, what ever the republicans are will not and can not fix this. I believe in the post that I read today that if the big companies will raise the wages of there people and share that wealth that Bush gave them then, they(the companies) would see an even bigger jump in business because more people would be able to buy their crap.
The only real people that I see at fault here are the U.S. citizens for not standing up for their rights. People used to not be taxed to death. The government started programs to help people out. For everyone program that the government created, the also created a tax on the people and on the government. Now we have to pay tax and SS. I have no choice but to support the people that do not want to work, because my taxes go to those that refuse to work.
Stop the war. Stop the SS, should have been stopped a long time ago. Stop welfare. Stop the crazy spending on stupid stuff. Make things a little more black and white, or multicolored, just make them destenct. We don’t need people hiding money for roads construction in a state, when the bills primary reason is to stop water pollution.
Stupid stupid government and U.S. Citizens. It is a crazy thought, but should we over though our government now, or just wait until no one can afford to eat?

well-known economists have said, more or less, that the $600/person is not going to keep us from the impending recession, so i’m basically with you on this standpoint. the government’s time and money would be better spent to come up with a solution for the social security and medicare/medicaid issues. fix what’s broken before handing out refunds.

Chip: I just wish they would start all over. People will say that it would be impossible. I find that hard to believe. It was only a little over 200 years that this country started. It is a good time to start over. We should wipe it all clean. The government programs, all of them.
People would help each other out I believe. Then again I could be wrong. I’m not an econ expert by no means. I enjoy spending money. I also enjoy it when people pull their own weight.

Does anyone really think that with gas prices the way they are that anyone will be spending the money on luxury merchandise? More than likely they will use it to pay their Shell and Texaco bills. Hey…..I will have 300 dollars more to spend on gas….maybe this is the point. Bush is helping out his oil friends. Extra cash just in time to pay for the gas for our summer vacations.
On a side note: I have been listening to Jennifer Government by Max Barry. Anyone read it? Futuristic novel where everyone has the last name of their employer. So we have Haley McDonalds and Violet Exxon-Mobile and John Nike.

DineometerDeb: You know, at first I was really happy about it. Wootage! an extra refund. Then I get to thinking about how much I spend in gas and other taxes. Then I realize that I could end up being taxed on the $600 as well. You know it is just over the $599 mark to not be taxed on as income. Of course if I’m going to be taxed on that I will just take off the time it takes me to do my taxes.
I don’t think that it is fair to the people of this nation to do such a thing to them and not really showing them the entire picture. This country is broke. We will fall into a second world nation in a few years, maybe even a 3rd world nation.
Who will bail us out? No one. All of the countries that depend on us will fall or start depending on someone else. The U.S. needs to be a little more selfish. You can’t help someone else until you help yourself. The U.S. is in trouble, and we continue to help other nations.
