iGeneration - MC Lars

Posted in Personal on December 31st, 2008

I was listening to iGeneration by MC Lars this morning and something dawned on me. I was around when the Berlin wall fell. So here are the lyrics:

The iGeneration new organization meant optimization and unification,
When imagination gave participation in creation of culture a manifestation.
The Berlin Wall fell and out we came, the post-Cold War kids laid claim to AIM.
LOL, OMG, yo, BRB. Space, colon, dash, closed parenthesis.
We sat at our laptops and typed away, and found that we each had something to say.
Web-logged our fears, our hopes and dreams. Individuated by digital means.
Fiber optic lenses, DVD, Coca Cola, Disney and Mickey D’s.
Flat mass culture, the norm that took hold; I hope I die before I get sold!

This really got me to thinking about things. Here I am talking about my life, and sharing it with everyone out there who care to read it. Everyone is world wide now. That is huge.

The oldest man in the US died at the age of 112 a few days ago. This man was born in the 18th century and lived until the 21st century. He saw the wall go up and get torn down. He lived though so many historical events it is just mind boggling.

Now here we are on the dawn of a new year. What will the next year hold. Will the US go into a depression or pull out of this recession? Will the 7 year war end in the Middle East? (you know with the US being involved. It is impossible to end a religious war.) Will the Android phone platform take to new heights as the #1 phone OS, will it replace micro computing as we know it? Will Obama be able to lead this country into an even greater era?

The answers to these questions and more are ahead. The future is unwritten. It would be impossible for us to know what will be the out come of anything at this point in time.

I want to wish all of you a Happy New Year. Keep your heads up. Keep your brains working on new and better things. Never stop learning and never stop believing. The new year is yours, just like each new day. Strive for everything that you desire. Most of all, be kind and respect one another.

Happy New Year

Time for Bed

Posted in Personal on December 31st, 2008

So here it is 3:18 in the morning and I really need to get to bed. It has been a busy night, and I’m sure that work will be just as busy tomorrow, end of the year and all that jazz. That is not even counting the rest of the crap that goes on daily at the office.

My brother came over again tonight to help me learn more Java and programming stuff. I have learned quite a bit. I’m really hoping to be able to start applying some of the knowledge that I have been reading about and listening to soon though. I really just want to be able to site down and write out some code.

It will have to wait. I want a good solid understanding of the way that it all works. Maybe in another week or so I will be ready to get down and pull my way though something worth while. We will just have to see. I might even attempt my first Android app in about a month. I have some great ideas for that OS.

Next time you plant a Tree

Posted in adverts on December 31st, 2008

You should plant a Persimmon trees. They give off a fruit as well. Most of the fruit is bitter and is not recommended for eating in large quantities. Although, the fruit is good in baking.

There is, however, a few versions of the tree that give off good fruit. Those are Giant Fuyu, Hanafuya and Fuyugaki. So in 2009, when you plant your tree, think “I want something fruity” and you will soon be enjoying the ‘fruits’ of your labor.

Need More RAM

Posted in adverts on December 31st, 2008

If you run any kind of laptop you will one day need more notebook memory. It is not that you really have to have it. It just makes things work faster.

The more memory that you have the faster your computer will run. This is only because more of the program can be loaded into RAM than swapped out on the hard drive. Swapped memory is much slower than RAM, as well as it takes up space on your hard drive, and that means less space for your videos and music or music videos.

So get some RAM, but remember, 3gig is the limit for any MS Windows 32bit OS, any more than that and you are wasting your money.

New Tats for Christmas

Posted in Personal on December 30th, 2008

Ok, I know. I didn’t gets this up yesterday after the tats were done, but they are going up now. I really just wanted to do a blog post about it and then that could be twitted as well. This way everyone wins. It is what they call a win, win, win, or something like that.

A little history: The wife and I are a little geeky. Ok, I’m a lot geeky, but that is not why I’m telling you this. When couples get together they have their terms of endurment. They also get into the notion sometimes that “I love you infinity +1″ or some other crazy crap. Well they crazy crap that me and the wife started was pi. Eveyone loves pi and pi keeps going just like infinity. You can’t really add anythign to pi, because then it is not pi. When have come up with our own little saying like:

I love you like pi.
A big ol’ piece?
The whole thing.

So there you have it. Our geek story and the story of pi, and also why the tats are the way that they are. So with out pressing to much more time, and showing some of the love I have for the wifey, here are the images of the tats.
