The wife and I got up to go see WALL-E. Well a phone call from her dad is what motivated me to be out of bed. It is hard for me to sleep in on the weekends any more, so once I was awake, I got up. The movie started at 11:20am and it was 11:15 when I said, “OK, lets go see the movie.” The wife figured that it was to late, and that we would miss the start of the movie. Well we didn’t.

So let me tell you about the movie WALL-E. I don’t normally spoil movies. This one is something that people should really go see. I enjoy killing, bloody movies. This is not one of those. I thought that it was just a neat looking cartoon animation. So here goes the story and the politics, green living, and other symbolism behind the movie that a child would never catch.

First off, the people of planet Earth, get into a space ship and take off into outer-space. It is later reviled that the president of BnL, or the US, sent a message to never return to planet Earth because of how toxic it was. The spaceship was also made by BnL.

So BnL. BnL is a huge company that started getting everyone to buy in bulk. Bulk water, soda, toothpaste, you name it. BnL also made the robots WALL-E. WALL-E was made to clean up the Earth from all of the trash and pollution that humans had scattered on the Earth. There was so much of it. The trash was demonstrated as large skyscrapers like the ones in New York, New York. WALL-Es would pull the trash into them, compact them, and then stack the compacted garbage.

EVA comes along every so often to look for life on the planet. EVA is looking for plants mainly. It is strange that this is the case. EVA appears to be spooked way to much, every time EVA is spooked by WALL-E, EVA blast a plasma beam in that direction with out even looking. Not much of a “Green Robot” I would say, but that is what EVA is there for. To look for green plants.

WALL-E shows EVA a green plant that he had found. EVA freaks, and grabs the plant and then goes into lock down mode. WALL-E was falling in love with EVA and decided to wait with her. One day he decided that he would return to work, and start cleaning up the mess the humans had left behind again. That is when the ship that dropped EVA off came back, and WALL-E hitched a ride.

The people on the spaceship that left some 700 years ago are now fat. the BnL logo is everywhere, and people have a screen in front of them at all times. There are advertisements everywhere on every screen. They also have meals in cups, so that they do not have to lift anything but the cup to eat. They do not cook, swim, or anything else by the time that the movie takes place. It is really a sad state of affairs.

So, back to the plant and EVA. You have a security robot, that because of a protocol that was issued 700 years ago, still will not let it be known that a plant was found on Earth. So you have the drama of EVA trying to get the plant to the captain, and the mother ship preventing it. I will leave that symbolism alone on that one.

So what a crazy movie. BnL to me looks like Wall-Mart. BnL stands for Buy in Large. WALL-E is also for WALL-E-WORLD or Wall-Mart as well. As you can see, it is big business that is doing what it can to keep people buying, Advertising in ways that make you think that you are doing you best to help the environment.

What really helped the planet? Humans not destroying it, and time. I shop at Wall-Mart as little as I can. I would rather buy from small business that I had from big business. I personally feel that companies like Wall-Mart, play a major part in the destruction of out planet. When they, and other business, work to advertise, educate, and misrepresent the way that they handle, produce, and sell goods, and people believe them. That is when we are a lost cause.

Currently, there are people that are working to reduce green house gases by 80 percent by the year 2050. They say that if this is not done, or really close to it, then you can expect that this planet as we know it, will be no longer. Sustainable life will be impossible.

I can’t say that we, my wife and I, do everything that we can to “Save the Planet.” I can say that we use a lot less energy that most people do. I can say because of the price of gas, that I don’t drive as much. I can say that we run fans in our house, so that we don’t have to use the air as much. All of this helps reduce our carbon foot print. Do I forget to turn a light off, sure I do. I’m human, and personally that is a poor excuse. I feel that I’m turning into an environmentalist. I’m all ready a tree hugging hippie.

Al Gore is a big environmentalist. He has won a Noble Prise for the effort that he has put forth. BUT!!! He has 3 house, that all have a carbon foot print that is larger than the average US family. Why is this bad. He flies to his environmental meetings, and drives an SUV. Personally, I don’t care if you have billions and billions of dollars. There is no need for any human to have, and cause that much of a carbon foot print. You only need one place to live. You don’t need 104 bed rooms either (not that one of Al Gore’s homes has this, I don’t know).

If people like Al Gore, really wanted to help the environment, cut down on the carbon, then help build new energy buildings. Tear down the old ones that are costing everyone.

You know, I don’t have all the answers. I might just be poor, and bitching because the rich man is keeping me down. I know that I have my computer at home where it cuts off after 45 minutes of not being used. This may one day kill my hard drive. but I do not know what else to do to cut down on the energy that I use on a daily basis.
