Working on the RX7…

Well I did some needed to be done work this weekend on the RX7. For those of you all that don’t know, I have an 84 RX7 GSL. It is in better condition than the 83 GS I own. The 83 has a blown motor though. /cry. So I wanted to build a small walk though for people and hell, because I can.

First off we have the water pump. I is located right below the alternator.

Next we need to remove the fan, and fan guard.

Next we have to remove the belt and alternator. The slide bar for the alternator will also need to be removed.

You will next need to remove the main pulley so that you can remove the water pump.

Next you will need to prep the new water pump. Place a bead of sealant on the water pump, then put the gasket on it, and then another bead of sealant on the gasket. You will want to let this is for about 10 min.

Now put it all back together.

You may notice that there is another belt on after the completion. I wasn’t sure it the water pump was slipping or not so I put on a 20 inch belt. It goes from the water pump to the crank pulley. This will give me 1/2 belt contact with the water pump instead of 1/6. This is a trick I picked up from RX7 Club. The people there are great and very helpful when it comes to rotary motors.

Well I need to get the post ready for Voice Mail Monday. Hope you all enjoyed this, I should have a few more post up tomorrow about how the weekend went.
