I was the winner of the Contest

A while back I entered a contest to win an ipod over at It’s Wright Now. My entry into the contest was a very poor entry, in my opinion. Emma’s site has only been upand running for bout 6 months now, but she has done a lot.

It’s Right Now is dedicated to information and articles about making money, SCO information, as well as complications with working from home on your blog. She also give really good links to other sites that back up her articles.

I would like to apologize to Emma for not writing a better post about the iPod contest. Truthfully, I really didn’t expect to win and I was in a hurry.

About the iPod, well let me just say, I didn’t have to buy into the marketing of the device. That makes me feel some what better about having one. I have enjoyed it the 12 hours that I have had it. It took me a while to get it to work with Ubuntu, but it is done now, and I am getting some of the features out of it, even though I’m sure I will not get all of them, Apple will not release the code to the DB on the device.

So Emma, I’m extremely happy with the prize. You were right, I really do enjoy having one.

Wow, I didn’t know you were using Ubuntu. The thing that makes iPod’s easy to use is iTunes. Maybe you can get it to work with wine. I know that’s something I’m fond of.

Thanks, for the post. Your entry was fine. At least you were one of my readers who had commented in the past. I’m glad you like the iPod and that you received it before you moved. Take Care, Emma

Emma: My problem with iTunes and other things like Zune is they lock you in. That is part of my problem with iPods and devices like them. Saying that gtkpod and other programs in Ubuntu that are made for Gnome 2.x.x have made it easy. I just drag and drop them in the program. i also got a program that would convert from ogg, file type i was using, to mp3. this all did things in mass mode.

All in all it took me about 2 hours to get it working on Ubuntu and it is slick now, and it took me about 2 hours to convert all my music from ogg to mp3, and 20 min to put them on the iPod.

All in all it was not painful, but it cost if you want to be free from the DRM and RIAA. Yes, RIAA all my songs are album rips that i own or they are from Amie Street.

Being free from DRM is a very good thing. Souns like you know what your doing. Enjoy!
